Words From The Artist

As a young boy, I loved to draw and create. Playing with Lego and doodling on anything paper that had a blank space were a daily practice for me. Entering my young preteen years, I became fascinated with photography and grafitti. During class, I sat drawing on pieces of lined paper, developing my artistic style in grafitti. By the age of 12, I saved enough money from my paper route to purchase my own digital point and shoot camera. Entering my early teen years, I borrowed a DSLR from my father and began snapping photos everywhere I went. My passion for photography grew, and I decided to commence a Project 365 to develop my skills; a project that requires taking one photo everyday for a whole year. During this time (and following the completion), I picked up some odd jobs for different clients, photographing for birthday parties, weddings, and photo shoots. Throughout high school, I enrolled in the Communications Technology courses, where I honed my videography, graphic design, audio engineering, and photography skills. I also enrolled in a Media Arts course in my senior year. In this Media Arts course, I stretched my artistic imagination to complete the assignments given to me. During high school, I formed a sort of motto for my photography; that photography is only a feeble attempt at capturing true beauty. I took this to my art, and with all the work that I did, I kept in mind that one of my goals was to translate as well as I could, the true beauty that my art was modelled after. My second most important goal was always to encourage thought in my viewer's mind. I acknowledged that it is impossible for everyone to understand the exact meaning of my art pieces, but it is crucial that art creates thought and semiosis in each viewer's mind. I am still a very immature artist, but I look forward to learning more as I embark on my journey through school.
