Dear Image Arts,

Ryerson’s Image Art’s festival Maximum Exposure is the weekend April 28th-May 1st! It is a festival to showcase photography, new media and film students. Opening gala is this Thursday at the Gladstone hotel 7-10pm. Photography, mixed media and short films will also be at Meta Gallery and Camera Bar through out the festival.

The film screenings will be at Toronto Underground Cinema 186 Spadina (just north of Queen on the west side). Friday April 29th 3pm-9pm and Saturday April 30th 3-9pm. I highly recommend the “best of” screening on Saturday April 30th from 7-9. For more information please check http://imagearts.ryerson.ca/maxex/

For the first time Max Ex film fest will have a people’s choice award. So the audience gets to pick the best film of the fest during the ‘best of’ program. First, second and third year doc and narratives are all in the ‘best of’ program. The winner receives a $1000 equipment grant from PS.

Also there will free alcoholic refreshments at the closing party on Saturday after the screenings at the Underground and then an after party at Crawford (718 College st west). The films that have been selected for the festival and their times are already posted on the our blog and Facebook account and hopefully later today on our website (links below). Max Ex will also be tweeting when each film starts.

The awards will be given out at the end of each night of screenings. The ballots for the “best of” which the audience votes for, will be given out in the intermission after the 3rd year narratives, so around 6:50pm. Awards include grants from White’s, Trew Audio, Audio Services, Image Gear, TIFF Lightbox, Creative Post, Eyesore, film stock, scanning, and cash prizes.

For the first time there are more awards and prizes than ever before. There are awards for Best 1st year, Best 2nd year Doc, Best 2nd year Narrative, Best 3rd year Doc, Best 3rd year Narrative, Best sound, editing, art direction, cinematography and the audience pick of Best of Fest.

No tickets are needed and everyone is welcome, Toronto Underground is one of Toronto’s largest theatre’s so there are lots of seats. Invite everyone you can think of!

Friday April 29th–First and second year (with a few 3rd year docs-we had more submissions than space so we made room on the Friday).

NOMADS is a collaboration featuring young emerging artists, which aims to move artwork out of the traditional gallery setting into public spaces, such as alleyways, parks, storefronts, etc. The goal of this project is to encourage experimentation with image based media and to explore different ways it can be presented, while creating a dialogue between the work and its physical environment.

NOMADS will take place between 28 April – 1 May 2011. It will be situated at META Gallery and will co-exhibit along side Maximum Exposure, a registered part of the CONTACT festival. NOMADS will connect three exhibition spaces – META Gallery, Camera Bar and The Gladstone Hotel – through various types of public installations consisting of original artwork by emerging Toronto based photographers.

After Effects animation assignments can also be submitted to MAX EX. There is no charge to submit the After Effects animation assignment and they will be shown at Camera Bar during the Max Ex festival. Submission deadline for the After Effects animation assignment has been pushed back to Monday April 11 til 6pm at the STILLS cage.

Maximum Exposure Film Festival is pleased to announce that this years festival will be held at Toronto Underground Cinema (at Queen and Spadina). There will be two days of screenings on Friday April 29th and Saturday April 30th.
Max Ex is Image Arts’ end of year showcase for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year film students, exhibited alongside New Media and 1st – 4th year photography works.
We will be coming to your classes this week to talk about the festival and answer any questions you may have.
There will be prizes for the best films, selected by a jury.
We do need a class representative from each section of each year to help put the reels for the festival together. The reels will be assembled after school is finished for the year. Please contact us to volunteer maxex@ryerson.ca. We can’t make the festival without your help!

This year there is the option of putting together a TRAILER for your film (that you have submitted) and we will post it on our website and blog, so that people can get a sneak peak of your film and create interest.

So come out and celebrate the end of the year at your very own festival and enjoy your fellow film students’ work!

Don’t forget to invite family and friends and we look forward to seeing you there!
