Verge Magazine, in collaboration with the Go Global Expo, has launched the 2013 Travel With Purpose Photo of the Year Competition.

Enter to win the Grand Prize of $1,000. Selected short-listed images will be displayed at the 2013 Toronto and Montreal Go Global Expos, and will be published in Verge Magazine’s Photo Annual edition.

Contributions from Canadians who have worked, volunteered, studied or have spent some time overseas, are particularly welcome. All short-listed photographers will receive a travel prize pack.

Air Canada officially announced it is inviting Canadian film students and emerging filmmakers to enter its seventh annual enRoute short film festival! Each year, a celebrity jury selects the best short films and broadcasts them to a large international audience on Air Canada’s enRoute in-flight entertainment system.

The winner of Best Short Film will receive a $5,000 cash prize courtesy of presenting sponsor Cineplex Entertainment. Other awards include Achievement in Direction, Achievement in Cinematography, Achievement in Animation and the second annual People’s Choice Award. All winners will receive an exciting new destination prize to a major international film festival courtesy of Air Canada.

Selected films will be broadcast on Air Canada’s personal seatback entertainment system and viewed by millions of Air Canada customers around the world. A free public screening and awards celebration will be held in Toronto at the end of the year to honour the winners. Additional screenings will take place in Vancouver and Montreal showcasing the selected films.

The deadline to submit to the Toronto Youth Shorts Film Festival is one week away on Friday May 3rd.

The festival, now in its 5th anniversary, is a one of a kind event offering young filmmakers a professional and exciting forum to showcase their work, receive feedback from industry professionals, and potentially win awards/prizes. We are accepting films and videos of all genres under 20 minutes in length by local emerging artists aged 14-28 in the Greater Toronto Area.

FILM SHOWCASE FOCUSES ON TORONTO’S YOUTH – CaribbeanTales introduces “48HR FILM CHALLENGE”

In its 8th consecutive year, the CaribbeanTales Film Showcase introduces a dynamic new segment whereby teams of young people will have 48hrs to script, shoot, edit and submit a 5 minute film. The goal is to engage youth and community through creativity, while encouraging and inspiring them to tell innovative personal stories through film.

“We want to encourage youth within the community, especially those that may not normally have access to resources to participate in a competition such as this, to develop skills in areas like production, directing and writing, and to express themselves by telling stories from their own experiences and perspectives. I think this segment of the festival will grow to be one of our most important segments.”

The Challenge will start with a 2 part story telling and skills workshop on September 6th and 7th led by Canadian actor Michael Miller and filmmaker Rodney Smith.  Teams will receive their instructions on September 8th at 5pm, and deliver their completed films by no later than 5pm on September 10tFilms completed during the Challenge will be screened at the Caribbean Tales film Showcase that takes place between Sept 9 – 14th at Harbourfront Centre, and an Audience Award will go to the winner at the festival’s closing ceremony on September 14th at 9pm.

Challenge Guidelines:

-Resources (cast, crew, equipment & locations) can be sourced before the Challenge, but all writing and production must take place during the 48hrs of the competition
-Teams must sign up for the Challenge, and receive their registration packets at the Caribbean Tales Opening GALA that takes place at Harbourfront Centre on Wednesday, Sept 4, 2013
-Secret instructions will be given out on Friday, Sept 6th 2013 at 7pm including: a randomly selected prop, and one line of dialogue.
-Completed films must be submitted on DVD format to the Harbourfront Centre, by Sunday, Sept 8th   at 7pm.
-Film Length: 5 minutes (maximum)
-A maximum number of 10 individuals per team (including actors & crew)

-Festival Dates: Wednesday, Sept 4th 2012 to Saturday, Sept 14th 2013
-Registration Dates: Friday, Sept 6th 2013 (10:00pm)
-Submission Date: Tuesday Sept 10th 2013

The10th International Film Festival of First Features and Student Films will take place from August 28 to September 1, 2013 in Prague, Czech Republic.

The festival competition is open to student feature, documentary, animated forms and new media in the maximum length of 45 minutes, the minimum length of first feature film is 60 minutes.

Only films produced after January 1, 2012 can be included in competition sections.

The films must be registered through the festival entry form at: www.freshfilmfest.net/entryform
