Air Canada officially announced it is inviting Canadian film students and emerging filmmakers to enter its seventh annual enRoute short film festival! Each year, a celebrity jury selects the best short films and broadcasts them to a large international audience on Air Canada’s enRoute in-flight entertainment system.

The winner of Best Short Film will receive a $5,000 cash prize courtesy of presenting sponsor Cineplex Entertainment. Other awards include Achievement in Direction, Achievement in Cinematography, Achievement in Animation and the second annual People’s Choice Award. All winners will receive an exciting new destination prize to a major international film festival courtesy of Air Canada.

Selected films will be broadcast on Air Canada’s personal seatback entertainment system and viewed by millions of Air Canada customers around the world. A free public screening and awards celebration will be held in Toronto at the end of the year to honour the winners. Additional screenings will take place in Vancouver and Montreal showcasing the selected films.

Hello, I am the director of the First Look Student Film Program at the Starz Denver Film Festival in Denver, Colorado USA.

The 36th Starz Denver Film Festival is scheduled for November 7–17 this year. SDFF screens approximately 225 films and hosts more than 175 guest filmmakers over the course of its 11 days. In conjunction with Liberty Global we will once again be presenting the Liberty Global International Student Film Award and we will be paying airfare and hotel accommodations for the top five student filmmakers in our international student film program to attend.

We are reaching out to film schools outside the US for student entries to our 36th annual film festival. We have a truly incredible student film program. If it seems like something you would be interested in, please see submission guidelines below.

First Look Student Film Program

The 18th annual Maximum Exposure Film Festival celebrates films made by Ryerson University undergrad film students. The festival aims to draw attentions to the talented filmmakers by showcasing a mixture of both narrative and documentary work from the first through third year film students. This year’s festival will be taking place at the historic Toronto cinema, The Revue located at 400 Roncesvalles Avenue on May 1 and 2.

The festival is entirely free but seats are first come, first serve. The doors open at 6:30 PM on May 1 and 2. The festival runs from 7PM-9PM each night. Please see the below lineup of films for our festival.

There will be an awards ceremony following the screening on May 2. The awards to be presented at Maximum Exposure will be:

“Best Film” for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year will each be awarded a $1,000 grant courtesy of White’s.

“The People’s Choice Film” will be awarded a $1,000 from PS.

“Best Cinematographer in 3rd Year” will be awarded a REDONE MX weekend camera rental from Camera Rentals Toronto along with a LIFT membership.

“Best Cinematographer in 2nd Year” will be awarded a $100 gift certificate from Image Gear.

“Best Cinematographer in 1st Year” will be awarded a $100 gift certificate from Image Gear.

JOB DESCRIPTION / MEDIA PHOTOGRAPHER

The Ryerson University School of Fashion is proudly celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Mass Exodus on April 11th, 2013, at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, the former Maple Leaf Gardens. Mass Exodus is the largest student-run fashion event in North America, showcasing the final collections of the graduating Fashion Communication and Fashion Design students. We are seeking photographers to photograph media, VIP, and guests in front of the media board.

Overall Responsibility: As a Media Photographer for Mass Exodus 2013, the candidate will be responsible for taking quality images of the attendees at the event. They will proactively approach guests to create and capture their candid moments. The photos taken will be credited with the candidate’s name on the Mass Exodus Flickr page. The ideal candidate must be available on April 11th, 2013, from 10:30am – 6:30pm.

Required Skills

  • Shoot images using a professional digital SLR camera and lenses
  • Seek out appropriate photographic subjects and opportunities
  • Produce quality images under varied lighting conditions and locations

The images Festival is currently offering a number of unpaid Internships that will provide valuable experience for those interested in events management and film and new media. The images Festival is run by a small core staff and offers Interns the opportunity for meaningful participation in the planning and execution of the festival.

Interns will have the opportunity to:

- assist with promotion and marketing strategies to develop community involvement;

- learn theatre operations and box office management;

- coordinate and supervise volunteers;

- research and strengthen relationships with cultural communities;

- create social media campaigns

These internships run from mid-March until the end of April, with part-time hours (1-2 days per week). During the festival, April 11-20, additional evenings and weekends will be required.

Images Internships

1) Social Media Intern; approximately 10 hours per week, more during the images Festival, April 11-20, working primarily from home (and events of course!) Using Facebook, Twitter and other social media to build images online presence and promote events, including live Tweeting of events and blogs.

2) Box Office Assistant; 1 day per week, daily April 11-20. You will prepare box office materials and systems for tracking ticket sales and supervise Box Office Volunteers on site during the festival.

3) Front of House Assistant; 1-2 days per week, doing various tasks in the office related to venue preparation for the festival and then working on site during the festival and learning about Front of House and Box Office and more. The majority of your shifts will be April 11-20, evenings and weekends. By the end of the festival you will have the skills to set up and run a smaller venue independently.

4) Festival Executive Assistant; 1-2 days per week, doing various administrative and planning tasks (plus others as needed) working alongside the festival Executive Director. During the festival, April 11-20, this position will be varied and flexible and busy, shifting from office tasks to on-site events and running errands. You will quickly gain an understanding of the inner workings of festival and event planning through this position.

5) Volunteers Assistant; 1-2 days per week, assisting with volunteer recruitment, training and scheduling, as well as on-site volunteer supervision during the festival April 11-20. You will learn our online volunteer management system to schedule and track volunteer involvement, as well as contacting volunteers via email and working with them in person.
