Call for Submissions
Deadlines:
Billboard/Path posters call July 11, 2011
Gallery Award call July 15, 2011
The Courvoisier Collective is seeking artwork submissions to be displayed on billboards and on PATH posters around the City of Toronto. In addition, runner-up submissions will be showcased in an exhibition at Gallery 1313, located at 1313 Queen Street West, from August 10 – September 4, 2011. The billboard winners will be selected by a jury of art curators and those pieces shown at the gallery will be chosen on the basis of jury votes and online votes.
Artists are asked to explore the theme of ‘Renewal’ in relation to the revolutionary role of art. The theme can be addressed in two contexts: 1) with respect to art’s capacity to revolutionize its own content and form, and/or 2) art’s potential to challenge the status quo.
Submitted artwork can use media such as photography, painting, mixed media, and printmaking. Submissions are to be sent through www.courvoisiercollective.com and require the inclusion of one (1) image in digital JPG, GIF, TIF, PNG format of the artwork, a title for the submission, an artist statement, dimensions, medium and all contact information indicated on the submission page.
Jury members include Phil Anderson, Executive Director (Gallery 1313), Paul Lee (independent filmmaker, film producer, and curator/programmer), Marc Audette (photographer & teacher at Glendon & York Universities), Aries Cheung (artist, designer, illustrator, teacher) and Camilla Singh (artist and curator).

Screening of Curt Truninger’s film The Rendezvous, at The Revue Cinema on Thursday, July 7, at 9 p.m.
Joe Fiorito has just written about it in The Toronto Star today:

The Rendezvous is a small film, based on a play, but it’s rich and evocative in its psychological portraits. Directed by Swiss-based Curt Truninger (he’ll introduce the film) it was shot in Toronto. It’s a study of the interaction over dinner of two lonely and isolated people, Jackie and Michael, who are colleagues at work and are attracted to each other. It has all of the awkwardnesses of first dates, the tense little dance people do as they try to get closer to each other. Will they succeed? After the screening, you’ll want to stay and talk about relationships! Curt will be on hand at the screening to introduce the film and answer any questions.

Dear students:
We need students to help us convert texts that describe some specific concepts into meaningful images and pictures. For example, we need graphics and images to represent the notion of corporation; we need another set of images to represent the idea of being a key person in an organization; then another set to describe selfishness, social being, motion to purchase, cognition, criteria, confidence … We need creativity to come up stimulating images with high impact on people.
If you think you can help with this job, please contact me asap. This is a paid job, and the rate is dependent on the student’s qualifications.
Sincerely,
Aziz Guergachi
