25 The Decapitated Museum

Faculty: Vincent Normand
Guest: Etienne Chambaud
Program dates: November 13, 2012 – December 7, 2012
Application deadline: June 8, 2012

Speaking for real: this isn’t a history painting, it’s a book of stories. A book being written with stories like the ones you get told when you’re getting your head chopped off—before going up there, or coming back from the show. Stories like they tell in museums.

This residency is addressed to participants willing to engage in speculative inquiry on the matter of exhibition, whether they work as artists, curators, or writers. The moment of exhibition will act as a figure towards which converge diverse spaces of authority (the studio, the exhibition space, criticism). The residency will thus be structured in as many points of enunciation, with individual studio and research time, public talks, and collective discussions enhanced by screenings and reading sessions.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GRFF ANNOUNCES 2012 SHORT SHORTS FILM COMPETITION

Cambridge, Ontario – April 23, 2012 - The Grand River Film Festival  (GRFF) today announced the fifth season of its highly successful SHORT Shorts Competition.  SHORT Shorts has established itself as the regional window on short film making by aspiring Canadian cinematographers.  Previous winners include James Anthony Usas, Lyndon Horsfall and Ryan Alexander.

In making the announcement, Jay Morrison, Board Chair of GRFF, said that over a period of five years GRFF had worked hard to provide local filmmakers with this much needed opportunity to showcase their talent.  “We now have the full attention of the local industry and are even beginning to receive submissions from other regions of the country.”  “This year we are simplifying the process of submission by making the industry-standard submission tool “Withoutabox” available for convenient on-line processing”.

SHORT Shorts is open to all Canadian filmmakers and accepts films of ten minutes or less.  Participants are offered support and exposure of their entry at a major networking event with a guest speaker in a proper theatrical festival setting.   Cash and product prizes are offered.  In addition the Competition features a special jury prize of a digital video camera for student filmmakers under the age of 19.

Submissions are now open at www.grff.ca for the October 2012 competition.  Projects must be of Canadian origin and must be completed after January 1, 2011.
