Data Self-Portrait
I decided to focus on one part of myself for this assignment - my ability to adapt to new environments and situations. I moved around a lot while growing up. Each place had its own challenges and having to adapt to each place has shaped a lot of who I am as a person. I calculated how many cities, homes, planes, and school and used this as the data for the portrait. I have each word ("City" "Home" "Plane" and "School") represent 1 actual school, city, home, or plane that I has been a part of my life. I used this data as text over a close up photograph of my face. The words are almost transparent and trace the contours of my face to show how I had to adapt to each. After I adapt to one, what I had to do does not just leave me after I leave the place. All of these things are still a part of me even though the first of each is far behind me. Having all of the words still visible (even just slightly) shows how I still have all of these with me and each are still shaping me.
